AFTAs 2025: Best analytics initiative—BNY
Project: CollateralONE
Overview
CollateralONE leverages BNY’s tri-party infrastructure to scale operational workflows by expanding collateral activity to include funding for equity repos and to meet variation margin requirements. This enables clients to address liquidity, financing and collateral needs within one ecosystem, holistically consider investment objectives, and reduce the cost of funding.
CollateralONE connects collateral, financing and liquidity in one ecosystem. Clients gain automation, efficiency and scale. Powered by Triparty, it integrates repo, securities lending, and margin into one solution
Ted Leveroni, global head of Margin Services, BNY
The initiative
Prior to the initiative, buy-side workflows were fragmented across custody, repo, margin and lending systems, while manual onboarding and static inventory allocation caused operational drag. Price-to-book (P/B) balance sheet limits, rising capital costs and regulatory requirements increased inefficiencies and restricted access to diversified financing.
How the tech works
CollateralONE unifies liquidity, financing and collateral into a single, scalable system. Smart inventory technology moves assets automatically into optimal locations, enhancing speed of access, reducing friction and improving the use of high-quality liquid assets (HQLAs) and non-cash collateral. Integration with LiquidityDirect (see the best data management initiative category in these awards) enables cash-to-money market fund transformation, while repo connectivity streamlines execution and reduces operational steps.
Initiative roadmap
BNY will expand its capabilities to facilitate a custody-agnostic view of the portfolio, bringing efficiency across a wider view of assets and liabilities. The firm will also continue to develop financing analytical capabilities on the CollateralONE platform to provide further actionable insights and opportunities.
Why they won
BNY’s CollateralONE platform wins this perennially competitive category in the American Financial Technology Awards on the back of its ability to satisfactorily address one of the industry’s most persistent challenges—fragmented collateral and financing workflows across the buy side that limit efficiency and crucially, transparency.
By merging liquidity, financing and collateral into a single platform, CollateralONE provides buy-side firms with control and transparency over assets and real-time access to diversified funding. Automated inventory optimization improves utilization of high-quality liquid assets and non-cash collateral, while integrated repo and money market fund connectivity reduces a range of operational steps. Ultimately, end-users across the buy side gain faster execution, broader collateral eligibility and clearer insight into various portfolio drivers. The result is a scalable foundation that strengthens balance sheet efficiency and supports more informed decision-making by way of greater transparency and granularity.
BNY also won the best data management initiative category in this year’s AFTAs.
