But another regulatory front has also opened that could have another substantial impact on how hedge funds and buy-side managers operate: calls for greater regulatory involvement in OTC derivatives markets have grown steadily louder over the past few months, with proposals being weighed to bestow greater authority upon the Federal Reserve and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to monitor derivatives and other exotic, largely unregulated instruments.
