UBS General Ledger Survives Merger, SBC May Give Ground On Systems


ZURICH--Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Bank Corp. have selected Abacus, a Unisys-mainframe platform developed by UBS in the 1980s, as the core transaction-processing and accounting system for the post-merger holding company's combined back office. The two banks have held off naming all but the most senior information technology executives in their investment management operations or selecting the surviving systems at the combined institution, but the decision on a core accounting system
