Back-office Buy-in

Among this week's crop of Buy-Side Technology news are three instances of significant back-office technology implementations: UK investment manager Jupiter Asset Management signing with SmartStream, fund administrator Vastardis Capital Services deploying Advent Geneva 8.0, and Bermuda-based administrator Meridian Global Fund Services Group going live on Fascet's enterprise data management platform.

In many instances investment managers' back-office capabilities have not quite kept up with their front-office advances; high-frequency trading beats NAV calculations any day in terms of sexiness. It's nice to see more attention paid, however, to less sizzling but absolutely crucial aspects of buy-side infrastructures. Hopefully these implementations won't prove isolated incidents.
