Digital Equipment Corp.'s VAX/VMS provides a better solution to the financial industry's need for real-time, interactive processing than the batch-oriented 370 and XA architectures offered by International Business Machines, according to an independent consultant who has designed systems using both DEC and IBM hardware.

Dr. William F. Frank, Ph.D., president of Integrated Information Systems Associates Inc., presented a white paper supporting his conclusion to more than 500 Wall Street
