RIM Buys Ascendent, Settles Suit


NEW YORK—In the wake of last week's $612.5 million settlement between NTP and Research in Motion (RIM) over the use of NTP patents in RIM's wireless BlackBerry devices, RIM on Friday, March 10, announced that it has acquired voice mobility solution provider Ascendent Systems.

Ascendent's technology lets cell phones connect to a corporate phone switch, among other functions. RIM and Ascen dent's software will be combined later this year. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
