There wasn’t a clear, smooth road ahead when Waters first launched. In fact, the magazine’s first editorial director remembers it started by making a u-turn.

Ten years ago, Waters magazine was not the well-oiled publishing machine it is today. But then again, it was put together by bunch of well-intentioned but ultimately experience-free newsletter editors, who thought it would be fun to get into the magazine business.

Frankly, flipping through the first couple of issues, that shows. But that the
