MTF Growth Expected to Be Short-Lived

In the next 12 to 18 months, new entrants, including MTFs and dark pools of liquidity, will emerge and from 2010 on the number of those venues will reduce, says Charlotte Crosswell, president of the Nasdaq OMX Europe MTF, who spoke at the European Exchanges Summit hosted by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

"It's just unsustainable," says Crosswell citing the MTFs' low trading fees. "We talk about the best systems surviving, but some of the best ones will not actually survive," she says
