Data Broadcasting Corp. unit of Financial News Network, Inc. has signed distribution pact with S&P Trading Systems to use Ticker III feed as primary data source. Ticker III will also be used to driving crawling tickers on FNN screen, and will be market data source for related company United Press International.
Automatic Data Processing Inc. is expected to announce deal with Telekurs (North America) Inc., sources say. Pact would allow ADP to redistribute Telekurs international market database to Merrill Lynch, Shearson Lehman Hutton, and other FS-Partner clients. Deal doesn't cover Japanese market data or other ADP services.
At SIA Sales and Marketing show, meanwhile, ADP showed canned demo of first technical graphics package intended for FS-Partner. ADP reps on site wouldn't discuss details, but futures-oriented package is thought to be product of Aspen Research, Glenwood Springs, CO group that previously worked with Commodity Quote Graphics, Inc.
Quotron Systems, Inc. made biggest market share grab since Citicorp acquired firm in 1986 as Kidder Peabody & Co. announced plans to ditch old ADP/Bunker Ramo MDS 7 system in favor of Quotron's Q1000. Deal covers all 75 of Kidder's U.S. branches and installation is underway.
Dun & Bradstreet Inc. should consolidate its financial information companies into single business unit and then triple unit's size over next five years, according to business plan drafted by consultants Bain & Co. Sources say plan calls for D&B to acquire real-time financial information businesses to complement Interactive Data Corp. and Datastream International subsidiaries. Whether plan would boost long-standing IDC ambitions to compete in real-time business isn't clear.
Track Data Corp. will supply ticker plant software to ILX Systems Inc., new quote vendor founded by ex-E.F. Hutton executives Norm Epstein and Bernie Weinstein (MTR, May 1988) with backing of International Thomson Organization. Software is similar to package supplied by Track to Hutton for ill-fated AWE (Advanced Workstation for the Executive) project.
Consortium of Italian banks is said to be planning new information service to provide real-time data across all financial markets. Service would be modeled partially on Telekurs A.G., information technology company owned by group of Swiss banks. Italian banks recently sent envoy to U.S. to seek sources of North American market data.
International (London) Stock Exchange signed first-ever deal with Stratus Computer Inc. $2 million contract calls for ISE to purchase several XA2000 CPUs during next several years to support Topic market data service.
