Not that Cisco Systems needs to be worried, but Berkeley Networks, of San Jose, California, has rolled out its ExponeNT routing switches that have a Microsoft Windows NT-based engine running against an Intel chip. The new switches, aimed at LAN networking, can route as many as 70 million packets per second as well as offer as many as 24 Gigabit Ethernet or 192 Fast Ethernet ports, say Berkeley officials who can be reached at http://www.berkeleynet.com.
