Already the backbone of the international payments system, the Swift network has recently begun to extend itself into more phases of the trade cycle. The SwiftNet FIX hub is now live with two users (TTW, Dec. 23, 2002), and analysts are now debating Swift’s influence in the industry when pitted against other entrenched interests such as Thomson AutEx/TradeRoute; Thomson’s joint venture with the Depository Trust and Clearing Corp. (DTCC), Omgeo; and Transaction Network Services (TNS).
