The Bloomberg codes are being made freely available for anyone to download, and market participants praise the vendor for a shift in the business model. This, the Bloomberg open symbology initiative, coupled with the recent standards-focused European Commission (EC) proceedings, has raised awareness of the standards debate and highlighted the need for common identifiers.
