Consolidation and market practice harmonization of platforms is high up on the European clearing and settlement agenda. Euroclear, the Brussels-based settlement system for securities transactions, for example, is now about to realize one part of its vision of a single Europe. In January 2009, it will consolidate multiple processing platforms into one single platform (SP) aimed at reducing the settlement of securities transaction risks and curbing fragmentation challenges.
