Nippon Dispatches: Day Two
My second day in Tokyo has been frustrating. The guidebooks and maps I brought with me have done little to help me navigate Japan’s capital. Just when I thought I had the city's geography figured out, it turned out that I had been walking in one giant circle, or “maru” in Japanese.
One bit of Japanese trivia: It is an old custom to add maru to a ship’s name as a suffix, presumably to help ensure that the ship and crew make a complete circle and return home safely.
