Trading Firms Zero in on Nanoseconds

"The future is obviously nanoseconds," says Mark Spanbroek, managing director of Getco Europe, who spoke during a panel discussion at the World Exchange Congress 2010.

"Those using algorithmic techniques are the ones shortening the time it takes to do a trade," says panelist Robert Fortheringham, senior vice president, trading at Canadian exchange operator TMX Group. "Everyone accessing our market uses them to some degree, whether they are volume-weighted average price (VWAP) or electronic order
