Foreign exchange (FX) has drawn more attention from trading desks at hedge funds and asset managers for several years now, both as an alpha source and as hedging and portfolio diversification mechanisms. Along with substantial growth in FX trading volumes, automation of FX markets has led to a higher degree of algorithmic and high-frequency strategy deployments, mirroring developments in equity markets starting in the early 2000s.
