Prior to the establishment of Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS), asset managers were free to publish performance results, which often differed markedly from the actual performances of their portfolios. But GIPS has changed the investment landscape to such an extent that now asset managers are using it as a tool to attract institutional investors, as StatPro's Carl Bacon explains.
