MSAM Continues Switch To UNIX In New York As It Mulls Adding Portfolio Management System

TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIES

MORGAN Stanley Asset Management Co. (MSAM), a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley & Co., has begun a technology upgrade from dumb terminals to UNIX workstations for managers and traders at its New York offices, according to sources at the firm. The move is part of a wider attempt to add functionality that includes a switch in portfolio management system platform from a Wang Laboratories Inc. computer to a Sun Microsystems Inc. SPARCstation server running UNIX (IMT, Nov. 29, 1991).
