Data management has been foremost in State Street chief data officer James Hardy’s mind since joining the bank 15 years ago. He approaches it as an engineer, breaking down silos into component parts, then putting the parts back together in more efficient ways. But it was a 2015 enforcement action by the US Federal Reserve that led the firm to revamp its anti-money laundering (AML) functions bank-wide, changing the way the firm looked at data.
