Buy-side firms have hardly been clamouring for the latest version of the Fix protocol -- version 4.4 -- since its release at the end of April last year. This is despite well-publicised reports that one of the key upgrades embodied in the new version is its ability to facilitate electronic fixed-income trading. But Stewart Eisenhart reports that this may be about to change, as technology budgets on the buy side start to increase again and more sell-side firms and electronic trading platforms
