No one in the order management systems (OMS) market will look back on the previous two years with any fondness. While each OMS vendor managed to eke out some sales, many acknowledge that the one-two punch of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the recession that shortly followed dealt some harsh blows to the OMS market.

The fortunes of 2004 look to be brighter, according to an informal Waters survey of OMS vendors and industry observers. While many vendors are still awaiting a surge in OMS
