LEI Grace Period Ends July 2

Esma warns six-month LEI grace period will not be extended.


The European Securities and Markets Authority (Esma) announced on June 20 that the grace period will not be extended beyond July 2, six months after Mifid II took effect.

The regulator introduced the grace period on December 20, 2017, allowing banks to apply for an LEI on behalf of customers, and trading venues to use their own LEI codes for non-EU issuers that currently don’t have an identifier.

During 2017, in the lead-up to the Mifid II deadline, more than half a million LEIs were issued
