For the time being, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has stopped short of proposing a market-wide circuit breaker to prevent a recurrence of the record drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) that took place on May 6—instead opting for a stock-by-stock circuit breaker proposal—although such a market-wide plan could still appear.
