Michael Shashoua: Communication Breakdown
Two months ago in this space, I took the tack that the industry should devote more attention and resources to compliance with the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (Fatca). I'd like to do a bit of a course correction on that stance, since hearing just how undefined and lacking the guidance from the US Treasury and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) appears to be, leading up to the July 1, 2014 deadline for compliance. (Hopefully I won't get audited for that comment).
