BRIEF OBJECTS

FIMAT CLOSER TO ASIA

Fimat, the brokerage arm of the Paris-based Société Générale, is slated to use BT Radianz's Proximity Solution in Asia to provide low-latency, direct market access (DMA) to derivatives exchanges in Korea, Singapore and Japan. The Proximity Solution allows securities firms to reduce latency when accessing markets in remote locations. The service supports traditional screen-based trading, and enables clients to host their own servers nearer to their trading markets. By using Proximity, Fimat will not have to provide the connection and network infrastructure to these markets. BT will use its affiliate in Korea to connect Fimat to the markets in Korea, Singapore and Japan. Fimat is already planning to use the service next year to connect to other markets in Asia.

BATS LINKS TO ARCA

Bats Trading, which operates the Bats ECN, now has direct connectivity to Archipelago. Orders will scan the Bats trading book and be routed to either Arca or Inet, according to David Cummings, CEO of Bats. "Arca currently has less restrictive short-sale rules than Nasdaq/Inet, so in many cases, short sales will be routed to Arca first," Cummings says. Bats and Arca are housed in the same data center and Bats has a direct fiber connection, Cummings says. "Outbound routing to Arca should be very fast," he says. Meanwhile, Bats last week lowered its access fee for removing liquidity from $.0027 to $.0026 per share.

CLEARCUBE'S NEW DEVICE

ClearCube Technology last week unveiled a new centralized computing offering intended to appeal to a broader customer base. Combining the new A Series PC blades and chassis with the I8330 I/Port access device will cut initial costs in half, according to ClearCube. The offering is supported by ClearCube's Sentral management software and can operate using less power, cooling and data center space, ClearCube says. It can be used for a variety of functions, from entry-level office computing to multi-monitor workstations. The A1010 PC blade runs on processors from Intel and connects via a standard Ethernet connection.

ORC LINKS TO MIDPOINT

Stockholm-based Orc Software announced last week that it has connected to the ISE Stock Exchange's MidPoint Match platform for trading U.S. listed and over-the-counter (OTC) equities. The International Securities Exchange (ISE) launched the ISE Stock Exchange was launched earlier this year (DWT, April 24). MidPoint Match is an automated equity matching platform that executes orders at the midpoint price of the national best bid and offer (NBBO) throughout the day, which makes it attractive for algorithmic trading. Orc's users will be able to anonymously execute trades via MidPoint Match. Orc facilitates direct market access (DMA) to more than 100 derivative and equity exchanges via a single platform and order entry book. In February, Orc acquired Cameron Systems, a FIX engines provider (DWT, Jan. 9).
